I want to talk about just what the title says, “Taking Charge of Your Faith”. Sunday Pastor Ivey brought a wonderful message, but the thing that spoke the loudest to me was when he said we have been given the charge to walk out our faith.
So let’s look at a couple of things, first, let’s look at what charge means?
This is a common usage: It refers to a directive given by someone in a position of authority, such as God, a parent, or a leader, to another person.
An example that could be used: a parent might “charge” their child to be obedient, or God might “charge” a prophet with a specific message.
OK, so charge means that we take authority over something we grab a hold to it. We don’t waiver from it.
Let’s look at Faith, what does scripture teach us?
Although there is much said about Faith, the scripture teachs us that faith is about trust and belief in God, and in his promises.
The teachings found in the Bible, demonstrate through actions and our commitment to live according to God’s will. It’s not just intellectual, but is the deep confidence in God’s character and His ability to operate in our lives.
In Hebrews 11:1 it teaches us that faith is the substance of things hoped for, with the evidence of things not seen. Romans 1:17 tells us that the righteous will live by faith. Ephesians 2:8-9 reads that salvation is by grace through faith and in Matthew 21:22 it encourages believers to ask in prayer with faith, believing they will receive.
So, in my thoughts Sunday after leaving church I was on the highway heading towards home and I asked the Lord; Lord, do I take charge over my faith? The truth is, I do to an extent, but to lay hold to the understanding of what charge means and what faith means there is power in those two combined.
I began to think about my immediate health condition. A few weeks ago I developed a cold and honestly after recovering I really thought I must have had covid because for a couple of weeks I had been carrying a heaviness in my chest as though there was an underlying cold sitting on my Lungs that would not move.
As I meditated over what Pastor taught and taking charge of my faith, I placed my hand upon my lungs and began to speak out against this attack that had been trying to establish residence. I spoke to the Lord, claimed my authority and vowed to take charge of my faith and believe upon Gods truth, and that is; we have been given ALL authority in heaven and earth. I can’t tell you what all I prayed in those 15 minutes on the way home but what I can tell you is the cold that was sitting in my
lungs is gone.
So, I ask you, are you taking charge of your faith today?
