Run With Patience

I know, I know…right….Patience is not something any of us strive to keep at the forefront of our minds, however, it is truly a necessity.

This week my thoughts take me to ponder over three words:

  1. Patience
  2. Temporary
  3. Eternal

What do they really mean to our lives?

Webster dictionary describes them this way:

  1. Patience means to have the ability to accept or tolerate delay, trouble or suffering without getting angry or upset
  1. Temporary means lasting for only a limited period of time, not permanent
  1. Eternal means lasting or existing forever, without end or beginning.

When I pray, I always include asking God to give me wisdom and discernment. I ask that the Holy Spirit would help me to be sensitive to His leading…

Now, I can’t say that I have always been faithful to keeping my mind focused on my prayer requests, because life happens, trials insue,

and challenges arise.

However it’s in those instances that we have to consider what truly is in our hearts, what do we have our minds centered around?

Do we focus on the Temporary things of this world (what’s happening in the moment) or do we have the Eternal matters set to our minds (God, the word of God and our soul)?

In Hebrews 12:1-2 we are given clear instructions of what we need to do.

Heb 12:1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before

2) looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

Do you see what it says in verse 1? “Let us lay aside every weight and sin that would so easily beset us”

It’s evident the Lord knew that problems, circumstance and situations out of our control could have the potential power to trap our minds, to cause us to question and second guess things in our lives, things about ourselves. This is where the weight comes in, this is where our actions are triggered.

Myself, I allowed my past of not having parents in my life dictate me into believing they didn’t love me, they didn’t want me. I was 14 years old when I ran away from home and became pregnant. I can’t even fathom one of my Children or grandchildren being on their own at 14, but I was.

It wasn’t until I reached my early 30’s and began to set my mind upon eternal things above that the Lord began teaching me about forgiveness, it was in the forgiveness that I learned we all become accountable for our decisions, we all have a free will and with it comes the freedom to decide in what direction we want to go.

It’s making a conscious decision to do the right things, making a choice to be better, but I also have to say this, knowing what you desire your future to be you must know what the eternal things of life means.

You see, our past does not have to define us, it can make or break us with the problems, the worries, the chaos and so forth, we have the power to decide.

Hebrews 12:1-2 is very clear regarding what we need to do. Run with patience (one day at a time)

and look to Jesus who is the author and finisher of our faith.

Is it easy? absolutely not, but when we reshift our focus and consider, patience, temporary and eternal meanings it instills within us the ability to move forward in a less hurried manner.

The storms will pass, the trials will cease the chaos will level out but the eternal things will never decease if only we continue our run with the Patience of God…

About Me

My name is Kim Brasher. I started writing back in 2015 not ever really believing I would go any further than just encouraging myself. As I have grown in my relationship with my Heavenly Father, I discovered writing is a gift I have, and as I began to share it with others the Lord encouraged me to go wider with it.

Thoughts to Ponder are just that, something to meditate over, something to consider. How does it relate to you? There is no right or wrong in your answer, we are all on a journey and we each grow differently at different places.

My prayer is that you will be blessed by reading and may you become encouraged. Please feel free to leave your feedback, as it is always welcomed.
