There is Power in His Name

I was reminded of a dream I once had.  I’m not sure why we dream dreams in the way we do but what I do know about this dream, is the power that is in the name of Jesus!

The dream:

Larry and I were on a camping trip.

Now mind you I am not one to sleep in the open plains, not my preference and especially not in a sleeping bag. I’m not saying that I never would but as long as I have the opportunity to make the decision I will always agree to never sleep out in the open, I’ve watched to many dangerous animal shows.

The dream continued:

On this camping trip we are in the woods and came to an open clearing. Truly the only thing that could be seen was the night sky and stars.  Larry turned to me and said we can camp here. I stood in bewilderment thinking he must be out of his mind, to think that we would sleep outside in the open.

By natural behaviors I would not know what items one would pack in their hiking gear, but here I was with my gear and bedroll all packed up on my back.

While Larry is building a fire I am unrolling my sleeping bag. All I could think about in this dream was wondering if a snake would crawl up into this bag with me. My thoughts begin thinking of ways that I could close myself up in this bag so that it would be secure around my neck leaving no room for anything to get in.

I’m not sure what happened from the moment of me thinking about the snakes to the next moment (in this dream) me waking up to a tremendous pressure beating down

on me. It took me minutes to adjust my eyes beyond the pain and fear to see clearly what it was that was beating down on me.

It was a bear, it would stand up then just pounce down on me, it did this several times and I couldn’t open my mouth, I couldn’t scream, but it hurt terribly. About the fourth time he pounced on me I managed to scream out the name Jesus, instantly the bear stopped and it was gone.

Then, I woke up from this dream.

As I pondered over the dream and the vividness of it, all I could think about, why would I dream such a crazy dream, what possible meaning could come from it? It was here the Holy Spirit quickened within me and reminded me of the power that is in the name of Jesus.

Of course, I got up and began to search the scriptures.

Over and over again in Scripture we read, In my name, In Jesus’ name, or In His name.

You see, the devils were powerless because of his name (Luke 10:17). The demons were cast out in his name (Mark 16:17-18). Healing occurred in his name (Acts 3:6, 3:16, 4:10). Salvation comes in his name (Acts 4:12, Rom. 10:13). We are to baptize in his name (Matt. 28:19). We are justified in his name (1 Cor. 6:11). Everything we do and say is done in his name (Col. 3:17).

But, it is praying in Jesus’ name that I want to bring to the forefront. Jesus has encouraged us, He has urged, and commanded us to pray in his name and has promised us results.

John 14:13-14 and John 16:23-24 seem to be some of the most powerful verses in the scriptures related to prayer. In fact, I would say when most of us pray we end with the phrase, “in Jesus’ name.”

Now going back to this dream, when I shouted out JESUS, the bear immediately ceased and everything became still and the fear was gone.

Friends, there is POWER in the name of Jesus, a name above all others……

So, my question to you this morning….as you ponder over these thoughts….What do you believe about the name of Jesus?

My name is Kim Brasher. I started writing back in 2015 not ever really believing I would go any further than just encouraging myself. As I have grown in my relationship with my Heavenly Father, I discovered writing is a gift I have, and as I began to share it with others the Lord encouraged me to go wider with it.

Thoughts to Ponder are just that, something to meditate over, something to consider. How does it relate to you? There is no right or wrong in your answer, we are all on a journey and we each grow differently at different places.

My prayer is that you will be blessed by reading and may you become encouraged. Please feel free to leave your feedback, as it is always welcomed.
