As I was reading from a devotional today the message was on “Spiritual Roots”
What does this mean for me?
If Gods word is life to me as a river is to trees, then I should have stronger roots. It is obvious the trees need the nourishment of the water to aide in its growth. The trees take in the water through the roots, which allow it to circulate to every part of its living life.
So, I’m thinking if the roots are grounded and strong, if the trees can survive a storm, stand straight after the harsh winds, that would be the evidence of a strong root system.
Of course, I must ask myself what is my root system like?
Am I easily moved by the storms that come into my life?
Am I able to withstand the harsh winds that come at me?
I know there have been times when I had the tendency to allow the storms and heavy winds bend me, nearly to the ground, almost to the feeling of breaking me. This of course, made me reflect on my time, my study, allowing the word to penetrate and soak in me.
This takes me to a show I once watched about a woman who had a strong root system.
The movie Harriett on Netflix,…now you talk about a woman who had deep roots, who was strong in her faith. Her preacher told her when she began her journey not to let fear become her anchor, and she didn’t…it’s truly a remarkable and inspirational show….when she was told she couldn’t do something, she quickly spoke up and told the people not to tell her what she couldn’t do, because God had already shown her what she could do…..
So, with this mornings devotional my desire is to press in and allow the word of God to create even stronger roots, but in order to have these deeper and stronger roots I must continually water them with the washing of the word. I must allow it to sink in, allow it to penetrate into the very depths of my being. No one can do it for me, I must put fourth the action….
