Once upon a time I was traveling to Huntsville and was surrounded by fog on all sides of me, literally not able to see things clearly at all but up ahead in the faint distance I could see the image of yellow flashing lights which I immediately begin to slow down because I’m thinking it’s a warning.

I am pretty familiar with the surroundings as I have traveled the path many times, so with anticipation of wondering what I am about to embark upon, my mind quickly shifts and I begin to think about when we walk in our own understanding of what we think something might be, makes me believe without the leading of the Holy Spirit in our lives, we are walking in a fog.

At this point I sense a nudging that I need to pull over because I know I need a word to guide me through this “thought to ponder”.

As I searched several scriptures regarding cloudy, faint, darkness as to which I find several, but

2 Peter 1:19 jumps out at me.

“So we regard the words of the prophets as confirmed beyond all doubt. You’re doing well by paying attention to their words. Continue to pay attention as you would to a light that shines in a dark place as you wait for day to come and the morning star to rise in your hearts”.

When driving in the fog, your vision is limited, things aren’t very clear. You might recognize an outline or color but you can’t see the details.

There are many signs that you are familiar with and can acknowledge even though they aren’t really visible and in the realm of the Spirit you can recognize the move of the Spirit of God but you can’t see God or His work clearly. You recognize His work, you see the heart of His love, grace and mercy. You witness the results of His power but you don’t see the Spirit as He is. You can see His love in your family, your church, and in your own salvation, and yet, you really don’t see Him as He is in all His majesty. The fog hinders your view and most of the time you can only see a few feet ahead.

Most days when I am on my road of travels I am traveling by faith, believing that the way is clear, that other people will drive safely. My reality is I know that somewhere, someone will encounter those that will ignore the warning signs.

There are many times when we travel through life ignoring or refusing to use caution or even slow down when the cautions are placed in our path, but God is faithful to watch over us, He is always warning us of those things that are lacking in our walk with Him. So, I ask you…where are you in the fog?
